American Heritage Girls "AHG", is a girls group that is an alternative to Girl Scouts, but serves as much much more.
But for starts here is a brief background - American Heritage Girls was founded in 1995 by Patti Garibay and other parents from the state of Ohio. Its purpose was to form a Christian alternative to the Girl Scouts, after the Girl Scouts allowed individuals to use wording choices they did not believe in.. In other words they took out G-D out of the girl scout pledge.
So in a nut shale AHG Oath is:
I promise to love G-D,
cherish my family,
honor my country,
and serve in my community.
And their Creed is:
As an American Heritage Girl, I promise to be:
Compassionate - Understanding others in fellowship, empathy, kindness, and caring. Respect others' opinions and emotions.
Helpful - Willingly serve others.
Honest - Always tell the truth and keep my promise.
Loyal - True to God, family, friends, community and country.
Perseverant - Continuing to strive toward a goal despite obstacles.
Pure - Keep my mind and body pure.
Resourceful - Wisely use my time, materials and talents.
Respectful - Honor my country, be obedient to those in authority and courteous to all.
Responsible - Accountable for my own actions. Reliable in all situations.
Reverent - Faithful and honoring to God. Respectful to the beliefs of others.
Some very special stuff!
Now the organization boost more than 48,000 members in 2017 and in constantly increasing in all states. Church's all across America have been encouraging AHG as an alternative to Girl Scouts. The groups include the the
-
Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas.
-
Association of Baptists for Scouting
-
The Diocese of Birmingham
-
The Diocese of Colorado Springs
-
The Diocese of Ft. Worth
-
The Diocese of Rockford
-
The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod
-
Original Free Will Baptist Churches
And these are just cherry picked off the top! I know in the suburbs of Atlanta where my own two girls attended they are in large Methodist Church's in the local area that we were welcomed to and heard about through local friends. Since AHG allows for your charter group the often form at local christian churches of all denominations. They also do a good job explaining the benefits of a church charting a new group.
As for the age group that aloud the group starts at age 5 and goes through 18. All age groups are encouraged to be good citizens and earn badges for work that supports the community as well as their own development. For example you can get a badge for cooking and for going on a field trip to a space center, "yes that was a fun one for our family".
I would also like to add, that I often got a little teary in this group just listening to those little girls sing about their mission and its one of those warm memories that could last you a life time.
So if you are looking for a christian alternative organization, go light your candle and meet some warm good heart-ed faith based people. Before you decide on any girls group what so ever, I truly encourage you to reach out to a local unite and visit. I know they are close by to most now and that they are very open to new members and are always welcoming for new guest to come by!
